Spring is a pretty amazing time in Alaska. It never fails that we get a few days of sunshine to get us all excited about the thought of summer...then just as your enthusiasm and hope are at their peak: snow. And this year we aren't just getting snow. We are getting windy, blustery, blizzardy snow. No better reason to stay home, drink coffee for a solid hour, spring clean, and catch up on life.
As I was catching up on life, (making to do lists, finishing up some homework, etc) I realized that I have a little over a month of school left before I begin a whole new adventure: the real world. When I made the decision to go back to school for my Bachelor Degree, it was less about finding a "real job" and more about proving to myself that I can finish something I start! (Even if it takes a decade)
Because I set out to "just finish" and not make millions upon graduation- I chose the degree program with the optimal amount of fun to ensure I could stick it out! In August I will officially graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Physical Education with an Emphasis in Outdoor Leadership and Administration. Quite the mouthful, but definitely the path of least resistance. I knew I was 'in' when I looked at the course requirements and read: Rock Climbing, 4-Seasons Backpacking, Sea Kayaking, etc.
I love a good adventure-and taking courses like Ice Climbing, Glacier Travel, and Crevasse Rescue has been extremely rewarding. But what will I do when I graduate?
I have no idea what my job prospects will be when Fall rolls around, but I have taken a step to beef up my resume- in the form of an internship.
At the end of May I will be leaving home again for another two-month stint. It's not as glamorous as London, but the sun shines bright in the summer! Ladies and Gentlemen, drumroll please....I am headed to Fairbanks! Arctic Winter Games 2014: get ready to have the best Sport Manager Intern ever! (and the first one- so definitely the best!)
