An e-mail from a long lost Aunt and Uncle, stating that their nanny was leaving, and they were thinking you could step in for the summer...IN LONDON...sounds absolutely MAD! (That's Brit for "crazy") Especially if you're 27 years old in a comfortable job, a comfortable relationship, a comfortable house to live in, comfortable (yet wildly overpriced) "health insurance" to rely on, and you're on track to graduate from college before you're 30 (to many that may seem old, but for wanderers- that's Doogie Howser, M.D.- style)
When should I be there? How do I sign up? YES!
Four weeks later - I dropped my summer
courses, quit my job, and am risking the comfort of home, job, school,
and a relationship for a new experience. This is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to spend three months in London!
So, here I am- about a month into it!
Chest deep in public transport, track tournaments, after school snacks,
British slang, driving on the "wrong" side of the road, and most amazing
of all: having dinner on the table every night at six! (surprisingly
enough: everyone is still alive and well...well, they're alive) A real
European housewife, I am!
Did I mention 2012 is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee?
Oh, and perhaps you've heard the 2012 Summer Olympics are being hosted in London?
You're my hero!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog and I am so jealous of your non-directional approach. I can't wait to read more.

My Cheeky Naomi,
ReplyDeleteSo back in your country of birth, my daughter must stir some infant intrinsic feelings of comfort and warmth I would guess. I am proud of you as always and glad you are making life an adventure because you only have one go of it in each age and stage. As for the lemons, hell I have ate my share and have learned over time: tequila added to the lemons backs them much more enjoyable.
